"BUSINESS AND BIODIVERSITY PLATFORM
AT PORT QASIM"

On December 20th, 2017, IUCN, the Port Qasim Authority (PQA), Engro Foundation, FELDA WESTBURY Qasim (Pvt) Limited(FWQ) and Pakistan International Bulk Terminal (PIBT) jointly launched Pakistan’s first Business and Biodiversity Platform (BBP) at Port Qasim.  

The Platform is a unique initiative focusing on nature conservation through the collective support of the private sector.

Under the Platform Green Port Qasim Initiative will be initiated.

OBJECTIVES:

• Develop sustainable urban forestry
• Counter air pollution and urban heat island effect
• Increase aesthetic value of the port area
• Restore native flora and ecosystem
• Raise environmental consciousness amongst public

PROJECT OVERVIEW:

• Develop an Afforestation Plan for PQA – identification of potential sites for planting (e.g. roadside, public parks, member companies vicinity, commercial and industrial areas).
• Raising of planting stocks/nurseries.
• Experts engagement to oversea implementation and post planting care.
• Engaging members in ceremonial planting and awareness raising.
• Establishment of Sewerage & Combined Effluent Treatment Plants at Port Qasim.
• Solid Waste Management System and solution within Port Qasim.
