Port Qasim is managed by Port Qasim Authority. It is Pakistan's second busiest port, handling about 40% of the nation's cargo (about 25 million tonnes per annum).
It is located in an old channel of the Indus River at a distance of 35 kilometres east of Karachi city centre.
PQA currently caters for more than 40% of seaborne trade requirements of Pakistan. The port is accessible through a 45 km long channel marked by channel buoys up to 11 meter draught vessels. The navigational channel is equipped with a Light House, channel markers, shore beacons and leading lights for safe navigation of 75000 dwt class vessels. The port has excellent multi-modal connections with rail/road network.

All development projects at the port are being undertaken in private sector on BOT basis without costing a penny to PQA. Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) to the tune of US$ 1.22 billion this year through development projects at the port.
